Masunaga Optical premiered the eyewear production in Fukui, Japan in 1905. The company founder Gozaemon Masunaga started eyewear production in Fukui, where was a heavy snowfall area, with the ambition of setting the optical industry solidly in place.
We have been honing our skills and providing beautiful, high-quality eyeglasses following the company mission statement.
“We manufacture excellent eyeglasses. We want to make a profit if we can, but we don’t hesitate to take a loss. It is always in our thoughts to manufacture excellent eyeglasses.”
Our eyeglasses with remarkable design and functionality have been made using integrated production system, which enables us to be skilled at creating wide variety of designs.
We now design and produce optical frames for the European, American, and Asian markets.

Gozaemon Masunaga invites craftsmen from Osaka to live in Fukui and establish an optical frame industry in the region.
1911
Masunaga wins its first Gold Medal at the National Manufacturing Trade Exhibition.
1917
Improved technology for gold/copper and gold/silver frames.

Receives the Japan Manufacturers Association Award for contributions to trade and industry.

The Emperor visits Fukui and is presented with three Masunaga frames.
